Energy Conservation - Commercial & Industrial

The Electric Division of the Wallingford Department of Public Utilities (WED) offers these programs and suggestions to help you reduce your electric costs.

  • Incentive payments of up to 40% of the pre-tax project cost for lighting retrofits and purchase of energy-saving equipment, as long as the customer's payback period does not exceed five years. (A project might qualify for a smaller incentive payment if the projected payback exceeds five years.)
  • Lighting retrofits and installation of energy-saving equipment will be performed by the customer's contractor. The WED has a list of contractors who have successfully completed projects.
  • Projects that qualify for incentive payments include higher efficiency commercial- or industrial-rated air conditioning equipment, including variable frequency drives (VFDs) for HVAC equipment, air compressor equipment, three-phase motor replacements, and lighting retrofits.

Contact the WED's Energy Efficiency & Conservation Specialist, Walter Szymanski, at 203-294-2280 for more information regarding qualifying projects, cost, payback period, how to apply, etc. and for questions on any of the WED's energy conservation programs.
